You can still park in there
This is the reason most people in Clarksville talk themselves out of a garage simulator. It's a two-car garage with two cars in it, and giving one bay up permanently isn't a trade anybody wants to make.
A retractable bay solves it. The impact screen and the side panels roll up into a housing at the ceiling on a motor. Down when you want to hit, up when you want the floor back, on a remote, in under a minute.
Why this matters more here than most places
Almost everything built around Clarksville in the last twenty years is slab-on-grade. There's no basement to put a simulator in. So the garage is the room — it's the only space in most of these houses with the ceiling height and the depth to make a bay work.
That's why the fold-away version is the one I get asked about most, and it's the one I'm building in my own garage right now.
What it is, plainly
A tubular motor and a roller, mounted in a housing above where the screen hangs. Tight to the ceiling, or tucked into a soffit I frame for it so it disappears. The screen is the same material as a fixed bay — what changes is how it's held.
Side panels can run on the same system, or stay fixed if your walls are already doing that job. Overhead protection too, if the ceiling needs it.
The honest part about manual versus motorized
There are manual roll-up systems and they cost less. I'll quote you one if that's where the budget is.
But be straight with yourself first. Anything that needs ten minutes and a ladder before you hit a ball is a thing you do enthusiastically in November and stop doing in February. The whole argument for a retractable bay is that you use it, and a remote is what makes that true.
The one thing I need to see
Your garage ceiling. Specifically where the door track runs and where the opener sits, because the housing has to clear both. Some garages are straightforward. In others the opener has to move to a side-mount unit, which is a real cost but a solvable one.
Stand where you'd hit from, point the camera up toward the door, and send me that photo. I'll tell you which one you're dealing with before you commit to anything.
